What's the difference between SOC 2 Type I and Type II, and which do we need for enterprise deals?
Prism Pro
Type I reports that your controls are designed properly at a single point in time. Type II reports that they actually operated effectively over a period, usually 3 to 12 months .
For enterprise buyers:
- Many will accept a Type I to get a deal moving, especially if a Type II window is already open.
- Security teams at larger companies increasingly require Type II .
A common path is a Type I in the first quarter, then a 6-month Type II window straight after. It keeps the audit evidence you're already collecting useful.
